Part of the v2 polishing pass. On Home, each board becomes a deck of its next cards, as in the round-two Stacks sketch, and For you gets denser.

What changes

  • Each board tile is a deck on the board's re-lit colour: up to three of its top cards lie a little askew, the top one in front with its date and tag dots. They fan out on a spring under a pointer or keyboard focus (not with reduced motion), a press squeezes the tile, and the home entrance deals them back card first. The deck is the board's columns in order, leaving out the last once there are two, because the Done deck holds finished work. An empty board shows a dashed place for one card. The progress bar goes; its numbers are already in the counts line. The pin and cog move to the end of the name's line, out of the way of the fan. On a phone, Home stays the draft's grouped list.
  • For you cards are two lines: title and due chip, then the board, its column (as search shows it) and faces. They sit three across in two rows, or two across in under 900px of page (a container query, since the sidebar comes and goes), instead of six tall, mostly empty cards in a row. On a phone they are one row that scrolls sideways, as before.
  • Home's new-board form and Restore use the shared 36px field and 28/34px buttons, where they had v1 sizes.

Cost

GetTilesAsync adds two queries (the decks' cards, their tags' colours) and decrypts at most three titles and dates a board. Columns are read only until they hold three cards. The column filter is repeated inside the ROW_NUMBER subquery: reached only through the join, Postgres numbered every card in the deployment first (+4 ms at 6,000 cards). Measured with the app's services over the split-query factory, median of 25 runs:

corpus tiles before tiles now
6 boards, 120 cards 0.15 MiB 0.25 MiB
12 boards, 720 cards 0.17 MiB 0.31 MiB
24 boards, 6,000 cards 0.20 MiB 0.43 MiB

For you adds the column's name to its second pass; its allocation is unchanged.

Docs

boards-and-permissions.md (the home page and the strip), data.md (the hot path, the SQL trap and the re-measured tiles column), frontend.md (the v2 status line and its departures, and the entrance). The unreleased changelog's Home line now names the decks; the changelog allows seven unreleased lines, so it is the same line.

Verified

tools/verify.sh green (600 unit tests). Playwright on an isolated stack: home, board-entrance, mobile, access and boards specs 40/40; full suite below. Screenshots at 1440, 1920, 1100, 820 and 390, light and dark, with hover.

The tiles take the round-two Stacks sketch: a board is a deck of its top three
cards (its columns in order, the last left out once there are two) on its own
re-lit colour, a little askew, fanning out on a spring under a pointer or the
keyboard. The progress bar goes; its numbers are the counts line's. For you
becomes three across in two rows of two-line cards (title and due, then board,
column and faces), where six tall cards in a row were mostly empty.

GetTilesAsync gains two queries and decrypts at most three titles and dates a
board; the numbering is filtered inside, or Postgres numbered every card in the
deployment first. Measured: tiles 0.25/0.31/0.43 MiB against 0.15/0.17/0.20.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

I found no correctness problems in this change, and I didn't run the build or tests. I read the diff only.

  • GetTilesAsync:
    • The deal logic holds up. It skips the last column once there are two, stops at three held cards, and ignores empty columns.
    • An empty dealt list is handled.
    • The final Deck can't pull from the skipped last column, because topsOf only has entries for dealt columns.
    • The column filter is repeated inside the Take, as the docs say.
    • Ordering by Position then Id is consistent between the SQL and the in-memory re-sort.
  • ForYouService: The extra ColumnName projection is decrypted only for the six winners, as the docs say.
  • Docs and changelog: docs/ is updated in the same PR, including the allocation table, and the changelog line is changed in both locales without adding an eighth line.
  • Tests and entrance: The e2e spec follows the new markup, and the entrance JS deals the deck back card first.

Three minor notes, none blocking:

  • .board-tile-controls { bottom: 61px } is a hand-summed offset that assumes the counts line and foot are one line each. It will drift if either ever wraps.
  • The phone list hides the deck with display: none, but the server still decrypts up to three titles and dates per board. That's a small cost and already counted in the measurements.
  • The deck markup is aria-hidden, so a screen reader hears nothing of the cards. The comment says this is intended.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

My last pass approved with no blocking issues, so there was nothing to confirm as fixed. I re-read the diff only and did not build or run tests. I found no new problems.

  • GetTilesAsync still deals correctly: it skips the last column once there are two, stops at three held cards, and handles an empty dealt list. The column filter is repeated inside the numbering, as the docs say.
  • ForYouService decrypts the extra column name only for the six winners.
  • Docs and the changelog are updated in the same PR, both locales are covered, and the changelog stays at seven unreleased lines.

  • The phone list hides the deck with display: none, but the server still decrypts up to three titles and dates per board. That cost is already in the measurements.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

Nice piece of work — the deck tiles, two-line For you cards and shared field/button sizing all hang together, the docs and measurements read, and the e2e/unit coverage is updated with it. Approving; three small notes.

  1. Sorting duplication, deliberate? topsOf gets its order from tops.OrderBy(c => c.Position).ThenBy(c => c.Id), while the SQL already ordered and Take(3)ed per column; the in-memory sort is only needed for the cross-column appearance order inside a deck. Harmless, but a sentence in the remark in GetTilesAsync would spare the next reader the double-check.

  2. e2e covers a one-card deck only. home.spec.js now asserts one .board-tile-mini from a board whose single card sits in its first column, so the Sacramento cross-column path (two columns, last one left out; two askew cards) and the dashed empty-place is only exercised by the CSS :has fallback. A deck-of-two or an empty-board assertion would catch a regression there cheaply.

  3. Verified otherwise for my own peace of mind, no action needed: the deal's GroupBy iteration order keeps ColumnCardCounts[0] as the "to do" count (LINQ to objects order is guaranteed), the entrance's reduced-motion bail sits earlier in the same gate so the deck deal can't run although the CSS fan can't (intended, per the docs), the removed .board-tile-bar has no remaining test/spec references, and the tag colours reaching inline styles come straight from Tag.Color in the normal appliance path, same trust boundary as the existing chip rendering.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

I re-read only the new commit, which adds a comment in GetTilesAsync and widens the e2e test. I didn't build or run anything. I found no problems, and my earlier notes were non-blocking.

  • Deck order: The new test creates cards in three columns and expects the DOM order Doing, Card, with nothing from the last column. That matches the deal logic and the reverse render, and it covers the case where the deck spans columns.
  • Count regex: /3.*1/ fits "3 cards · 1 to do".
  • Comment: The added comment explains why the in-memory re-sort is needed.

Still non-blocking from before:

  • The hand-summed bottom: 61px offset on .board-tile-controls will drift if the counts line or the foot ever wraps.
  • The server decrypts deck titles even where the phone list hides the deck.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

Re-review: the new commits brought no changes to the areas my earlier notes covered, and the last outstanding items were minor and stay non-blocking.

  • Deal logic re-verified in BoardService.GetTilesAsync: skip-last-when-two, held >= DeckSize stop, empty-column skip, the column filter repeated inside the ROW_NUMBER subquery, and topsOf drawing only from dealt columns. The in-memory re-sort (tops.OrderBy(Position).ThenBy(Id)) only sets the cross-column appearance order inside a deck; the SQL's own per-column order is what Take(3) already kept.
  • For you: the column name is decrypted only for the six winners (Pick → second pass), as documented.
  • Docs/changelog/tests: updated in the same PR, both locales, seven unreleased lines held; the e2e spec follows the new markup and the entrance JS deals back card first.

Two carried-over minor notes (unchanged, no action required):

  1. A one-line remark near topsOf saying the in-memory sort is for cross-column order would spare readers a double-check of the seemingly duplicated ordering.
  2. e2e still exercises only a one-card deck (single card in column one). A two-column deck (last left out) or the dashed empty-board place would catch a regression there cheaply; today the empty case relies on the CSS :has fallback and manual Playwright passes.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

Re-review: both minor notes from my previous pass are now resolved — the topsOf line carries the "numbered per column in SQL, but returned in no order" remark explaining why the in-memory re-order exists, and home.spec.js covers the cross-column deck (three cards across three columns, expecting Doing then Card in the DOM and nothing from the last column) instead of only a lone card. Re-checked the deal logic, the For-you two-pass flow, docs/changelog and the entrance JS against the diff; nothing else changed and nothing new turned up. Still approving (the hand-summed bottom: 61px controls offset and the deck being server-side built even for the phone list, which hides it, remain minor notes from earlier passes, both deliberate per the code comments and accounted for in the measured numbers).

✅ **Verdict: approve** — no blocking issues found. Re-review: both minor notes from my previous pass are now resolved — the `topsOf` line carries the "numbered per column in SQL, but returned in no order" remark explaining why the in-memory re-order exists, and `home.spec.js` covers the cross-column deck (three cards across three columns, expecting `Doing` then `Card` in the DOM and nothing from the last column) instead of only a lone card. Re-checked the deal logic, the For-you two-pass flow, docs/changelog and the entrance JS against the diff; nothing else changed and nothing new turned up. Still approving (the hand-summed `bottom: 61px` controls offset and the deck being server-side built even for the phone list, which hides it, remain minor notes from earlier passes, both deliberate per the code comments and accounted for in the measured numbers). --- ⏱ 1m 53s · 3 steps · $0.0028 · tokens: 1.9k in / 623 out (+67.5k cache-read) · Go: 5h 0% · wk 2% · mo 92% 📜 [Full session transcript](https://git.grandiras.net/Grandiras/opencode-bot/src/branch/opencode-logs/transcripts/Grandiras/Ponente/pr-260/run-2026-10-05T18-05-58-994Z.md) <!-- opencode-reviewed-head:994b56691eb37f9164e4e5cad0c93e8d45292b9a --> <!-- opencode-verdict:approve -->
