design/trace/seed.py no longer applied after #234, and the traced canvas frames still showed the look from before the #238 restyle. This PR fixes the seed, teaches the tracer the v2 CSS, and retraces.

Seed (seed.py)

  • Drops Members.Role and writes Boards.Key: BoardKey.From(<CreatedAt>, <index>), reimplemented in Python. The eight keys match the C# output byte for byte (checked with dotnet fsi against the built assembly), and all are well-formed.
  • Boards are made on fixed days (the same ones as before), so keys and URLs are the same on every run. Due dates and activity now count from the run's UTC day, as the app's "today" does. Pinned to 2026-09-22, a retrace today drew every card overdue and an empty October calendar.
  • unseed.sql touches neither column and needed no change.

Tracer

  • extract.js converts oklab()/oklch(), which is how Chrome computes color-mix(in oklab) and relative colours. Before this, the v2 ground, board tints and accents were dropped. The conversion matches Chrome's own to within 0.5/255 on every such colour on a board, in both themes.
  • Pseudo-elements that paint in the flow are traced: the tag chip dot and the dot before "Everyone". Before, a flex item's ::before was centred in its element (flex items compute as block), which put the picked-tag tick on its label.
  • build.py uses Inter. The composed Desktop — Menus frame takes v2 type and colours and the ground of the page under it.
  • PONENTE_URL/PONENTE_DB point capture.mjs at an app other than the shared stack. The README says when.

Canvas: the 31 traced frames are rebuilt from the restyled app (e6a0de2; db9fa08 changes nothing in Chromium). In the saved file only those 31 frames differ: the hand-composed frames and the v2 region are byte-identical, and the only other changed entry is preview.webp. docs/frontend.md drops the "traced frames predate the v2 restyle" line.

Checked

  • The old seed fails with column "Role" of relation "Members" does not exist. The new one applies, and unseed.sql cleans up and restores the admin row and the default board's access.
  • Against a throwaway Postgres plus dotnet run, never the shared ponente stack: after a restart, every demo board opens by key. Five load with their cards, Choir answers denied (not the admin's board), Spring clean deleted, and a well-formed unknown key missing.
  • All 32 capture scenarios pass. The new extraction was diffed against the previous one: the only additions are the dots and the moved ticks.
  • tools/verify.sh: build plus 584 unit tests, green.

`design/trace/seed.py` no longer applied after #234, and the traced canvas frames still showed the look from before the #238 restyle. This PR fixes the seed, teaches the tracer the v2 CSS, and retraces. **Seed (`seed.py`)** - Drops `Members.Role` and writes `Boards.Key`: `BoardKey.From(<CreatedAt>, <index>)`, reimplemented in Python. The eight keys match the C# output byte for byte (checked with `dotnet fsi` against the built assembly), and all are well-formed. - Boards are made on fixed days (the same ones as before), so keys and URLs are the same on every run. Due dates and activity now count from the run's UTC day, as the app's "today" does. Pinned to 2026-09-22, a retrace today drew every card overdue and an empty October calendar. - `unseed.sql` touches neither column and needed no change. **Tracer** - `extract.js` converts `oklab()`/`oklch()`, which is how Chrome computes `color-mix(in oklab)` and relative colours. Before this, the v2 ground, board tints and accents were dropped. The conversion matches Chrome's own to within 0.5/255 on every such colour on a board, in both themes. - Pseudo-elements that paint in the flow are traced: the tag chip dot and the dot before "Everyone". Before, a flex item's `::before` was centred in its element (flex items compute as `block`), which put the picked-tag tick on its label. - `build.py` uses Inter. The composed *Desktop — Menus* frame takes v2 type and colours and the ground of the page under it. - `PONENTE_URL`/`PONENTE_DB` point `capture.mjs` at an app other than the shared stack. The README says when. **Canvas**: the 31 traced frames are rebuilt from the restyled app (e6a0de2; db9fa08 changes nothing in Chromium). In the saved file only those 31 frames differ: the hand-composed frames and the v2 region are byte-identical, and the only other changed entry is `preview.webp`. `docs/frontend.md` drops the "traced frames predate the v2 restyle" line. **Checked** - The old seed fails with `column "Role" of relation "Members" does not exist`. Members has no Role since #234, and Boards.Key is required: each demo board
gets the key BoardKey.From would mint for its creation time, with its index as
the clock id, so its URL is the same on every run. Due dates and activity now
count from the day of the run in UTC, as the app's today does; pinned to the
day the seed was written, a later retrace drew every card overdue.

Chrome computes color-mix(in oklab) and relative colours as oklab() and
oklch(), which the extractor dropped: the ground, board tints and accents
all came out empty. It converts them to sRGB now (matching Chrome's own
conversion to within rounding).

A pseudo-element that paints in the flow (a tag chip's dot, the dot before
"Everyone") was skipped, and one in a flex row was centred in its element,
because a flex item computes as block: a picked tag's tick sat on its
label. Both now sit beside the text as the row lays them out.

Type is Inter; the composed menus frame takes its ground from the page
under it. PONENTE_URL and PONENTE_DB point capture.mjs at an app other
than the shared stack.

The 31 traced frames are redrawn from the restyled app: Inter, the tinted
grounds, raised tiles and recessed columns, the tag dots. Nothing else on
the canvas moved: the hand-composed frames and the v2 region are byte for
byte what they were. The docs no longer warn that the traces predate it.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

I read the diff only. I didn't run the seed, the tracer or the app, and I didn't open the binary Ponente.free.

  • Seed: The BoardKey port looks right. The 60-bit-down shift over 13 base32 characters is correct, and the operator precedence in us << 10 | clock is as intended. The fixed board days and the run-relative NOW/TODAY match what the description says.
  • Tracer: The OKLab/OKLch conversion follows Ottosson's matrices. Widening the colour regex to COLOR is applied consistently in the colour, shadow and gradient paths. The inFlow refactor is shared between the pseudo-icons and the pseudo-boxes, so the two now place pseudo-elements the same way.
  • Docs and tooling: The docs/frontend.md line is dropped as it should be. The PONENTE_URL/PONENTE_DB overrides default to the old values, so existing runs are unchanged.

Minor notes, none blocking:

  • dt.UTC needs Python 3.11 or later. A line in the README would help if the repo doesn't already pin that.
  • pseudoBoxes now also traces relative and static pseudo-elements, where before it took only absolute ones. You report the extraction diff showed only the intended additions, so this is fine, but keep it in mind for future retraces.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

The retrace pipeline fixes are sound, and I verified the load-bearing claims against the code rather than taking the description on faith:

  • seed.py key() matches BoardKey.From (src/Ponente.Kanban/Services/BoardKey.cs) exactly — same sortable-base32 alphabet, same micros << 10 | clockId layout, same most-significant-first >> (60 - 5*i) character order. The C# 53-bit mask and negative clamp are omitted but irrelevant at these fixed dates (micros ≪ 2⁵³, MADE is tick-aligned so truncation is identical), and the first character stays in the well-formed 0–15 range. Clock ids 0–7 are unique, so keys can't collide, and EnsureBoardKeysAsync only backfills keyless boards, so it won't touch these.
  • extract.js oklab conversion transcribes Ottosson's matrices and the sRGB transfer function correctly with per-channel clamping; the COLOR regex is anchored so color-mix( can't be mistaken for color(.
  • inFlow flex logic checks out against the actual app.css patterns: for .tag-chip (inline-flex, 0.35em gap, colour dot as ::after with order: -1) and .tag-picker .tag-chip-selected::before (tick with 0.35em margin-right), the leading/between/span arithmetic reproduces the dot → gap → tick → margin → text order precisely, including the case where both pseudo-elements lead. The .assignee-option-on::after auto-margin tick falls to the r.right - w fallback, the right shape for that layout. body::before grain is position: fixed and now skipped; reducedMotion: 'reduce' in capture freezes the drift/spinner animations.
  • build.py compose fill is safe (argb(None) → None → 'F7F6EF' fallback) and the root tree does carry bg. unseed.sql removes boards by Position and demo DIDs, so Key needs no handling; the Members insert matches the post-RequireBoardKeyDropMemberRole schema. Inter is indeed the app font now.

Minor, non-blocking: the auto-margin trailing-pseudo fallback uses the element's border-box right edge (r.right - w), ignoring the 0.5rem right padding of .assignee-option, so that checkmark lands ~8px right of where Chrome puts it in the modal-assign frame. Sketch-level, and the tracer's stated accuracy makes it acceptable — worth knowing if a future frame leans on that control.

Minor: for a trailing flex pseudo positioned by margin-left: auto (.assignee-option-on::after) with no direct text node, this returns r.right - w — the border-box right edge, so the ~8px right padding of .assignee-option shifts the tick right of where Chrome paints it. r.right - paddingRight - borderRightWidth - w would be exact. Sketch-level; fine to leave if the frames read well.

Review notes on #239. A trailing pseudo-element beside no text (the
assignee menu's tick, pushed right by an auto margin) was placed against
the border box, 8px right of where Chrome draws it; both fallbacks now
use the content box. The two Assign menu frames are retraced with it.

Both non-blocking review notes are fixed in 2e4e297:

  • Trailing pseudo: a trailing pseudo with no text is now placed against the content box. The assign menu's tick moves 8px left, onto Chrome's position, and the two Card Modal · Assign menu frames are retraced. A re-capture of all 32 scenarios was diffed against the committed extraction: apart from seed-time content, only that tick moved.
  • Python version: the seed uses dt.timezone.utc instead of dt.UTC, so it runs on any Python 3.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

I read the diff only. I didn't run the seed, the tracer or the app, and I didn't open the binary Ponente.free.

My earlier note about dt.UTC needing Python 3.11 is resolved. seed.py now uses dt.timezone.utc, which works on any Python 3, so no README line is needed.

My other note still stands, and it doesn't block. pseudoBoxes now also traces relative and static pseudo-elements, where before it took only absolute ones. Your extraction diff showed only the intended additions, but watch for stray boxes on future retraces.

Nothing else new to flag. The seed keys, the run-relative dates, the OKLab/OKLch conversion, the inFlow placement, the PONENTE_URL/PONENTE_DB defaults and the docs line removal all look right.

✅ Verdict: approve — no blocking issues found.

Re-review after the new commits. The one open item from my last pass is resolved: extract.js's trailing-flex fallback (inFlow, line 194) now subtracts the element's right padding and border before placing the tick, so the margin-left: auto checkmark in the modal-assign frame sits where Chrome paints it rather than ~8px inside the border box.

I re-verified the load-bearing pieces in the current tree and they still hold:

  • seed.py: key() matches BoardKey.From — same 13-char sortable-base32 alphabet, micros << 10 | clock, most-significant-first nibble order; fixed MADE dates keep keys and URLs stable across runs while NOW/TODAY follow the run's UTC day; the Members insert omits the dropped Role column, matching the current schema, and unseed.sql (boards by Position, demo DIDs, restores the saved admin row) needs no Key handling.
  • extract.js: Ottosson oklab→sRGB conversion with per-channel clamping is transcribed correctly; the oklch polar branch is right; the COLOR regex can't be mistaken for a plain color(); the inFlow lead/trail/between arithmetic reproduces the .tag-chip dot and picked-tag tick ordering from app.css; position: fixed pseudo-elements (the body grain) are still skipped.
  • build.py / capture.mjs / docs: compose fill falls back to F7F6EF when the tree carries no bg; PONENTE_URL/PONENTE_DB default to the previous values so existing runs are unchanged; the stale "traced frames predate the v2 restyle" line is gone from docs/frontend.md.

Nothing blocking remains — good to merge.
